I have been thinking a lot about what it means to be of service to those around you. Being a mother with young children I find it hard to get out and serve others. I find it hard to get much of anything done with average of 4 hrs of sleep each night. In fact if I can get food on the table before my husband gets home I feel I have accomplished a lot for the day.
A neighbor recently stated 'Everyone has the time to help out a neighbor in need.' While I agree to some extent, we don't all have time to help someone other than our family. If we did, who would really need help. Obviously, they don't have time to go and help others, or they most likely wouldn't need the help. Or it could be an exchange of needs I suppose. Where someone can help with something for you and you help them or someone else with something else. For me, I am serving my children and my husband. When I get the house clean and the kids washed, dressed and ready for the day, feed and change the baby, play with them, and so on, I am serving. Whether my neighbor believes it or not. So just because at this stage in my life I am confined to my home, where I rarely find a quite time to myself, I am serving. I am useful and loved.
